Vimshottari dasha

Your life on a 120-year clock. Computed to the second.

The Vimshottari mahadasha sequence — Ketu 7 · Venus 20 · Sun 6 · Moon 10 · Mars 7 · Rahu 18 · Jupiter 16 · Saturn 19 · Mercury 17 — is the spine of every classical Vedic timing read. We compute yours from your moon nakshatra, render it against your real birth-to-now timeline, and add the antar / pratyantar layers on tap.

Five layers deep

Maha → antar → pratyantar → sookshma → prana. Most apps stop at antardasha. We compute all five, because the sub-layers are where the timing actually lives.

Anchored to real dates

Your dasha sequence is computed from your birth nakshatra-pada (which determines how much of the first mahadasha you had left at birth), then rolled forward to the second.

Classical interpretation per leg

For every active dasha + antardasha combination, the relevant Parashari, Saravali and Phaladeepika passages are surfaced — not generic "this is good / bad" but the actual textual basis.

Question

What does my current Venus-Jupiter sub-period mean?

Reply

You are in your Venus mahadasha (until Aug 2030) and the Jupiter antardasha (Mar 2027 - Nov 2029). Venus is your 2nd and 7th lord; Jupiter is your 11th. The Parashari reading is: opportunities for wealth gain (Venus-2nd) through alliances or partnerships (Venus-7th), with Jupiter expanding via networks (11th). Phaladeepika 12.7 notes this combination is particularly favourable for joint ventures and ethical commerce.

FAQ

Why 120 years?

The Vimshottari system assigns specific year-lengths to each of the 9 grahas (Ketu 7 + Venus 20 + Sun 6 + Moon 10 + Mars 7 + Rahu 18 + Jupiter 16 + Saturn 19 + Mercury 17 = 120). The full cycle spans 120 years, the classical Vedic estimate of a full human lifespan.

Which lord starts my dasha sequence?

The lord of the nakshatra your moon was in at birth. Then the sequence rolls forward in the canonical order.

Are there other dasha systems?

Yes — Yogini (8 padas, 36 years), Ashtottari (8 grahas, 108 years), Chara dasha (Jaimini), and others. Vimshottari is the most widely used in modern Parashari practice; we compute it by default and Yogini + Ashtottari on request.

Is the dasha calculator free?

Yes. The full 120-year Vimshottari + Yogini + Ashtottari ladders are part of your free Kundli — no signup required.
