Nadi Dosha
Also known as Naadi Dosh, Nadi koota mismatch.
By MyPanditji Editorial · Updated June 17, 2026 · Methodology
Nadi Dosha arises in kundli matching when the bride and groom share the same Nadi (Aadi, Madhya or Antya) — the 8th and highest-weighted koota of Ashtakoot guna milan, carrying 8 of the 36 gunas. Several classical exceptions cancel it.
- Koota
- 8th of 8 (Ashtakoot guna milan)
- Weight
- 8 of 36 gunas — the highest single koota
- The three Nadis
- Aadi (Vata) · Madhya (Pitta) · Antya (Kapha)
What it is
Each Nakshatra is assigned to one of three Nadis — Aadi, Madhya or Antya, loosely mapped to the three doshas of Ayurveda. In guna milan, matching partners should ideally have different Nadis; sharing the same Nadi scores 0 of 8 and is the classical Nadi Dosha. Because Nadi carries the most weight of any koota, it can pull an otherwise high score down sharply.
The exceptions that cancel it
Crucially, the classics list several Nadi-dosha exceptions (parihara): the couple sharing the same Nakshatra but different padas; certain specific Nakshatra pairs; or the same rashi with different Nakshatras. A careful matchmaker checks these before treating Nadi Dosha as a barrier — which is why a proper guna milan often clears a match a quick calculator flags.

Frequently asked
What is Nadi Dosha in kundli matching?
It is the condition where both partners share the same Nadi (Aadi, Madhya or Antya). Nadi is the 8th koota of Ashtakoot guna milan and carries the most weight — 8 of the 36 gunas — so sharing it scores 0/8 and is flagged for health and progeny in the classical reading.
Can a marriage happen with Nadi Dosha?
Often, yes. The classics give several exceptions that cancel Nadi Dosha — same Nakshatra with different padas, certain Nakshatra pairs, or the same rashi with different Nakshatras. These should always be checked first. Where a genuine dosha remains, a Nadi-nivaran observance is the traditional response. Run a full guna milan rather than trusting a raw 0/8.
